Who is Engensus Engineering and Consulting?
Winner of the 2006 "New Venture Business Plan" competition at Louisiana State University. Engensus is a multi-disciplinary engineering and consulting firm that offers a broad array of services including structural engineering, wind engineering, coastal engineering, hurricane risk consulting, and failure analysis/forensic services.

Engensus practices a diverse array of specialist disciplines. Each of these disciplines allows Engensus to offer architects, engineers, public agency administrators, business owners and operators, private citizens, the insurance industry, and risk managers reliable technical consultation in order to make decisions that affect public safety and financial stability.

Where is Engensus located?
Engensus is located in South Louisiana, but can practice engineering from Texas to Florida along the Gulf Coast.

Engensus was started in 2006.

Why was Engensus started?
Engensus was started to help reduce future hurricane damage and improve public safety by assisting businesses and public entities in understanding and managing their hurricane risk. Our practice has evolved over its history to provide a wide range of engineering and consulting services such as structural engineering, bridge engineering, coastal engineering and coastal hazard consulting, forensic services, and others.

What is Hurricane Engineering?
Hurricane Engineering is a new branch of civil engineering that aims to minimize the threat to the natural and built environment, processes and human safety. The concepts of Hurricane Engineering have been in development at LSU over the past six years with a major grant from the National Science Foundation. The concept is similar to Earthquake Engineering.

Why is this important?
Hurricanes can have a severe impact on both human health and safety and the economic environment. Hurricanes can cause large productivity losses and crippling damage to a city’s infrastructure.

How did you get your name?
Engensus is derived from the latin word for engineering, ingeniosus, which also means “skilled”. We figured “Ingeniosus” was too hard to pronounce, so we put a twist on it and decided on “EN-GEN-SUS”
